Join the Clarkson University Department of Emergency Medical Services Education for an important session on recognizing and responding to domestic violence in patient care.
Date: March 18 Time: 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
This training will explore how EMS professionals can identify warning signs of intimate partner violence, communicate safely with patients, and avoid escalating dangerous situations. Participants will also learn why domestic violence is considered a major public health crisis frequently encountered by EMS providers.
According to national data, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime, and about 20% of cases involve a weapon. EMS providers are often on the front lines, yet many victims remain unidentified or never seek hospital care.
The session will be led by Meghan Williams (MA, NRP, CIC, NCEE) and will provide practical guidance for EMS professionals to better support patients experiencing domestic violence.
