Division of State EMS: Policy Statement 25-09 Supraglottic Airway Implementation for BLS

ree

The Division of State EMS is pleased to notify you that Policy Statement 25-09 Supraglottic Airway Implementation for BLS Practitioners has been posted to our webpage.

A few things to keep in mind as you review and implement this policy statement with your agency:

  1. Agencies that were approved under the pilot program do not need to resubmit for authorization.

  2. When your agency certification expires, you may be required to provide proof of the required data reporting and policies and procedures contained within the policy.

  3. Agencies are not required to possess recording and printing capabilities for continuous waveform capnography. A device that displays the waveform and end-tidal carbon monoxide (ETCO2) level is the minimum requirement.

  4. If an agency possesses a cardiac monitor with continuous waveform and ETCO2 capabilities, basic life support practitioners may use this feature when inserting an SGA, provided they are properly trained on agency-specific equipment.

If you have any questions regarding this policy statement or the implementation of this device, please reach out to our Agency Licensure unit at: ems.licensure@health.ny.gov.
